Software credits
Frame2Form stands on the open-source software and open data below, with thanks to everyone who makes them. No rights are claimed over any of it.
Building the model
| Software | What it does in Frame2Form | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| OpenDroneMap | Runs the whole model build, from photos or frames to a textured 3D model, a point cloud and a report. Used unchanged. | AGPL-3.0 |
| OpenSfM | Inside OpenDroneMap: finds the same points in many images and works out where each camera stood. | BSD |
| OpenMVS | Inside OpenDroneMap: builds the dense point cloud and the surface from the placed cameras. | AGPL-3.0 |
| MVS-Texturing | Inside OpenDroneMap: paints the photo colours onto the surface. | BSD |
| PDAL | Inside OpenDroneMap: filters and crops the point cloud, and writes the LAZ file. | BSD |
| Docker | Runs OpenDroneMap on the cloud server, in the exact version that was tested. | Apache 2.0 |
Drone video and photos
| Software | What it does in Frame2Form | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg | Reads the drone video and its hidden flight record, extracts the chosen frames, and makes the textures for the viewer. | LGPL / GPL |
| ExifTool | Writes each frame's position, height, camera direction and settings into the JPEG. | GPL or Artistic |
| libheif and libde265 | Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPEG. | LGPL-3.0 |
| libjpeg-turbo | Turns photos the right way up without losing quality. | BSD-style |
| Python | Runs the rest: decoding the flight record, choosing frames, finding the subject, checking the model. | PSF |
In your browser
| Software | What it does in Frame2Form | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| three.js | The model viewer: draws the model, its lighting, Clay, Triangles and Trim. | MIT |
| Leaflet | The maps at Confirm and in the Summary: the flight, the frames and the boundary. | BSD |
Open data
| Data | What it does in Frame2Form | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| OpenStreetMap | The background map. © OpenStreetMap contributors. | ODbL |
| Environment Agency LiDAR | The most accurate take-off ground height in England (1 m composite DTM). | Open Government Licence |
| EU-DEM (Copernicus) and SRTM (NASA) | Ground heights elsewhere, through Open Topo Data (MIT). | Copernicus; public domain |
Services
Frame2Form runs on Amazon Web Services in London: storage, sign-in, the job list and the cloud servers that build the models. Two pieces of AWS's open-source software talk to them:
| Software | What it does in Frame2Form | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| AWS SDK for Python (boto3) | The service's own code uses it to keep the job list, give your browser upload and download links, start the cloud servers, and look up accounts for sharing. | Apache 2.0 |
| AWS Command Line Interface | On the cloud servers: fetches your upload, saves the results and logs, and reports progress to the job list. | Apache 2.0 |
